  Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrates the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. It is one of the most popular festivals in India. People across the country celebrate this day with great devotion. Sikh devotees prepare special dishes at home, pray at Gurudwaras and even decorate their houses to make it look all special. People also help in organizing langars at Gurudwaras and volunteer for social services as well. This day also sees Prabhat Pheri being organized in various parts of the country where people sing devotional songs.   Dhanteras marks the beginning of the 5-day long festival of Diwali. The festival is celebrated on the 13th lunar day of the dark fortnight (Krishna paksha) of the Hindu month Kartik and so it is also called as Dhantrayodashi. This year, Dhanteras falls on 22 Oct. It is followed by Choti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja, and Bhai Dooj. The term Dhanteras is derived from the Hindi word 'Dhan', which means 'wealth'. On this day Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth, fortune, beauty, fertility, and auspiciousness is worshipped.
